Little Walter: Hate To See You Go (Chess/Acoustic Sounds) LP
Hate To See You Go brings together some of Little Walter’s finest Chess recordings, showcasing the tough yet lyrical harmonica playing and raw, emotional singing that helped define Chicago blues. Having honed his sound alongside Muddy Waters, Walter brought the amplified harmonica to the forefront, giving it the power and expressive range of an electric guitar or horn. Recorded between 1952 and 1960, these sessions capture him in his prime–from the playful interplay with Waters on “Blue Midnight” to the driving “Mellow Down Easy,” and “Roller Coaster,” featuring Chess labelmate Bo Diddley on guitar.
